Further information

Uwe Uhlendorff is Professor of Social Pedagogy with a focus on the didactics of social pedagogy. His teaching and research focuses on the one hand on the challenges of professional qualification for the fields of social pedagogy and on the other hand on learning and educational processes in social pedagogical contexts: Uwe Uhlendorff deals with didactic and content-related aspects of the training of teachers and educators. He is currently researching and developing innovative school and university teaching-learning arrangements that address social issues such as inclusion and heterogeneity as didactic challenges. His second focus of work is research into the educational processes of young people and parents in socio-educational institutions. The focus here is on the question of how learning and educational processes can be promoted through socio-educational interactions.

Uwe Uhlendorff studied education, sociology and communication sciences at the University of Göttingen. After completing his studies, he worked as a research assistant in youth welfare. He completed his doctorate in education at the Georg August University in 1996. He then taught and researched as a university assistant for the theory and history of social pedagogy at the Department of Social Work at the University of Kassel, where he qualified as a professor in 2001. He has been a professor at the TU Dortmund University since 2004. Uwe Uhlendorff was a co-applicant and supervisor in the DFG Research Training Group Youth Welfare in Transition (2004-2009). Together with Prof. Ogushi, he headed the research network "The Change of Social Integration - Perspectives for Social Services in Japan and Germany" (2002-2005). He was a visiting professor at the Graduate School of Education at the University of Tokyo (2009). Uwe Uhlendorff led the EU research project FAMILYPLATFORM (2009-2011), he was involved in several expert groups for the EU Commission and was a member of the scientific advisory board of the EU project FamiliesAndSocieties.
Uwe Uhlendorff is a member of the board and the scientific advisory board of the European Society on Family Relations (ESFR) and of the steering group of the German Academy for Pedagogical Leadership (DAPF). He is co-editor of the Zeitschrift für Sozialpädagogik.
