Scientific symposium: June 28, 2023

The climatic changes and the goal of minimizing man-made global warming, the pandemic in the past three years and its social effects, and last but not least the military violation of the state sovereignty and integrity of Ukraine by Russia since February 2022 are changing the world dramatically. The resulting challenges confront social work and social policy with the task of helping to shape these disruptions of the social. The social, and thus social policy and social work, are integrated into the social upheavals and realignments initiated by them.

German welfare capitalism is historically based on the message that all members of society can participate autonomously and self-responsibly in material, cultural and social resources. Against the background of the current social crises and political upheavals, social work is particularly challenged to critically accompany the (re)design of the social, both on the level of the organizations as well as with regard to the socio-pedagogical delivery situations, research and the qualification of professionals. The conference will attempt to discuss the relationship between social work and social policy in social pedagogical practice, in the formats of training and qualification as well as in relation to research challenges.

Venue: Internationales Begegnungszentrum (IBZ), Emil-Figge-Str. 59, 44227 Dortmund, Germany
