The term 'educational research' proves to be no less controversial than the concept of education itself. In the discussion, educational research often functions as a kind of umbrella term, marking a research profile that is intended to make it possible to empirically record educational processes in schools, especially those related to teaching, and to define the competencies to be acquired by pupils and evaluate them with the help of quantitative methods. In the context of other research traditions, there is a critical distance to this overly restricted understanding of educational research in terms of content and methodology. This volume focuses on educational approaches and contributions to educational research and the associated disciplinary perspectives and research methodological issues.
